With the camper packed we set off on route to the beautiful Worcestershire countryside to enjoy the ‘Hopfest on Fire’ bonfire and firework event.

We were given a warm welcome by Justin the campsite owner who advised us of the nights events and gave us a little history of the site.  Hopleys which is a former fruit farm has lots to offer whether you camp in a motorhome, tent or caravan.  Tipi hire is also an option with picnic table and external fire pit included in the price.

We walked from our pitch to witness the bonfire being lit witch soon roared into action giving off welcomed heat to all the people congregating around it.  The music started and we went into the marquee to have a look around.  In one corner local ales and other beverages were being served, jacket potatoes and hot dogs were on offer opposite the bar.  There were a few different bands playing a variety of covers and also their own material which went down really well with the crowd.

Prior to the fireworks which were due to start at eight o clock it was an opportunity to sample one of the wood fired pizzas that we were very much locking forward too.  There was a wait of about 20 minutes but this was no hardship for a freshly prepared pizza cooked in the traditional way.  We sat at one of the picnic tables and tucked in.  I can honestly say this really was one of the tastiest pizzas I have had in a long time, the base was thin and crisp, the toppings delicious and all cooked to perfection.

The firework display was exciting and kept the children mesmerised whilst parents chatted and sipped their beverages.  We returned to the marquee to sample the local ale and then finished the night off with a glass of mulled wine listening to the live music.

After a good night’s sleep we tried out the facilities and enjoyed a hot shower in the modern toilet block.  We went to the café for tea and toast and had a nice chat with some other friendly campers.

On leaving the campsite we stopped off at nearby Bewdley a historic Georgian town with an array of cafes, bars boutiques and gift shops.  We had a stroll along the river Severn and fed the ducks with the scraps of bread we had left from the previous day.

We enjoyed our stay and the Hopfest event and are sure to return in the spring for a longer duration.  Hopleys Family Camping really does have a lot of offer and is in a great location to explore and also visit a number of attractions.  The West Midlands Park, Severn Valley Railway, Black Country Museum and Cadbury World are all in easy reach.
